[thankfully for keigo, he’s able to calm his feathers down, returning them to their relaxed position against his back. no need for dabi to tease him, though he’s grateful that nothing comes of it.
instead, the previous unanswered question is there, and keigo can’t help his his eyebrows furrow. he debates answering truthfully or changing the subject, but doing the latter would result in further animosity. and keigo did need to keep an open connection between the two of them.
and he did give dabi that answer technically before, albeit in a sort of riddle.
so, the hero sighs and looks away, chewing on his bottom lip before he finds the will to correctly answer,]
The same reason you haven’t let me meet your boss or haven’t stayed the night with me.
[trust; beneath all the nitty gritty details of it all.]
Listen, I’m not trying to lie purposely. Not even the HPSC is aware that I can use my feathers like that. I can’t keep much of any secrets due to my status, so I keep a few things to myself.
[ dabi wonders if hawks is going to side step the question, brush it off somehow. he doesn't want further animosity between them either, but for a very different reason. if he knew hawks' reason was because he needed to keep an open connection between the two of them, he'd burn the bird to the ground. for now though, dabi assumes it's the same reason he has.
maybe he really is stupid.
the answer he gets makes him raise his eyebrows a little. ]
Those two thing've got nothin' to do with each other.
[he doesn't trust hawks enough to let him meet shigaraki, but not having stayed the night is such a completely different thing. maybe it shouldn't be because it seems to be making things so completely complicated, but it's not as if they're falling into bed with each other anymore anyway.]
[ hawks looks like he actually doesn't get it, which doesn't surprise dabi at all. it's not as if they really talk. why would they? they fight and fuck and exchange information. well, now they only fight and exchange information, but maybe dabi's getting a little tired of this itch he can't seem to scratch in any other way but hawks.
he stays quiet for a moment, thinking, listening to a rumbling in the sky that tells him it's pretty damn sure it's gonna rain, and of course he picked somewhere other than indoors to meet up today. ]
They don't. Ya know, it ain't no fuckin' secret that I'm a piece'a shit. A real fuckin' jerk, you always remind me'a that. So why? Why would ya even want me over there, let alone spendin' the night?
[he isn't gonna do it either way, he tells himself. but he wants to know why hawks would put himself through such bullshit... and do the same to him, and then still just expect things to be alright between them?]
You need me, huh? You gonna use me at your disposal too?
[the sounds of thunder gets the hero to look up, small frown at his lips. he can’t fly if there’s lightning and thunder. and keigo hates getting wet. he only likes and tolerates it when taking a shower or bath. or, of course, due to work.
instinctively, he shivers at the thought of being wet and cold, and taking a long way home due to how far out they were to his home.
but that’s for later to think about, because dabi answers him. he fixes his gaze back on the villain, quietly listening as dabi explains.]
Despite being a jerk, I do like you. You’re just rough around the edges, hot shot.
[he says with a wink. really, keigo wants to get closer intimately, all on his own without his handlers having any say-so. not that they’re aware of his growing relationship with dabi. keigo was keeping that to himself.]
Don’t ever really plan on disposing you. But if anyone is to be used, feel free to use me. Although, next time, maybe not where I’ll be getting wet.
[ lightning and thunder probably would suck for hawks, but he's not thinking about that now. not in the midst of this conversation. this is his downfall. he says he won't do this again and yet a meeting of only collecting intel leads to something else.
it usually isn't talking, but maybe it's all they really have left.
he does listen though, and hawks' words flip flop inside of him. hawks thinks that dabi is hesitant because he doesn't trust him, but the truth of it is, it's because he doesn't trust himself. he doesn't understand why. dabi knows he's not meant for this. not love, or caring, or kindness. his father beat that into him every chance he could get, and make sure it scarred deep with every thrust.
hawks thinks it's only trust issues that keep dabi from letting himself do this, but really it's nothing more than insecurity and self loathing.
of course, he's also the absolute worst at self reflection and communication, so there's no way in the world hawks will ever know this, unless the bird looks deep. they haven't done much of that, it seems.
and so he just sort of pouts and glowers at the words and the wink, before looking away as he crosses his arms in front of himself defensively, muttering a: ]
Whatever.
[very much self conscious, and trying not to be, because he's a big, bad villain, damn it.]
I don't gotta use ya any more than this. And look, I can't control the damn weather.
[and then as if on cue, the sky darkens and rain dumps out of the sky. dabi's pretty damn unhappy about it too.]
[keigo is perhaps too optimistic in terms of whatever this is that's between him and dabi. he shouldn't be. at all. considering that he intends on turning in the league at the end. it's his job and work here.
but, right then and there, he pretends to live in the moment, that it's okay to have these growing feelings for this villain.
it's hard to keep back the pleased and simple smile that quirks at the corner of his lips from dabi's pouting. it suits the other male, he decides. as if dabi wasn't this big scary villain that he's supposed to be.]
Yeah, ye-
[he goes to say when the downpour suddenly starts. immediately, he tenses up, wings spread open and wide, longer feathers able to kind of cover his head. not that it matters because it only takes those few seconds to get soaked.
why. why didn't he check the weather?
it's cold and brutal too, and keigo immediately and desperately wishes he could be close to dabi to get a little of that heat on him.]
S..Should we go in here? It looks abandoned?
[he asks with a shiver, nodding his head at the building closest to them.]
[ in the back of his head he knows this will end badly too. hawks is spy and he'll probably betrays them... but there are so many other things now too. dabi didn't start out with it in the back of his head. it used to be front and center, but he's gotten stupid about it over time.
but the things hawks says now, they get to him. he starts to wonder if maybe hawks is for real. maybe he actually does like him, even though he's unlikable. maybe his father was wrong.
all of that gets washed away by the sudden downpour of rain, though, and dabi lets out a shout, quickly crowding himself under hawks' wings without thinking about what he's doing. it doesn't do much, but it feels like it would be better than without the wings, but truthfully they should just be running for cover. ]
Yeah, come on!
[he says as there's a loud rumble a thunder and some more lightning. he doesn't wait much longer, just makes a run for the building. dabi hates getting wet.]
[instinctively, keigo finds himself protecting dabi from the rain with a wing. the heat there is welcoming, even if he's still getting wet at the same time. the thunder continues to rumble though, and keigo's wings tremble.
thankfully, they're not waiting long in the rain, and hawks doesn't wait to follow behind dabi, heading into the dry warehouse.
at the door, it easily gives, and keigo pushes them both inside. although, as he comes to close the door behind them, he feels a sudden rush of coolness. it was irritatingly cold within the warehouse, which didn't mix well with keigo's wet stature.
he shivers, clasping his hands to his arms, body trembling as he looks around the cool, dusty warehouse. it was honestly too dark to really tell what sort of warehouse it used to be or belong to. keigo also wasn't accustomed to these buildings, given how far off they were from his usual route.]
S-So, you've been h-here before?
[he asks, voice trembling. he assumes this must be a place dabi knew of. maybe.]
[ dabi runs and curses under his breath once they're inside. he feels like a drowned rat, trying to shake the water off of himself and makes sure the folder in his coat is still dry. the warehouse is perfect cover though, and he can't complain. he just hopes no one else is camping out here at the moment.
it's nearly pitch black, but dabi walks forward anyway, lighting a fire in the palm of his hand.
he glances over at hawks who looks worse than he does, especially because he's shivering. this place must be cold, but he can't feel it. he lets his fire grow a little wider, but tells himself it's only so he can see better. not because of hawks. ]
Been here once or twice. There's an upstairs part that's got a heater. Don't fall through the stairs, they're old.
[the glow of dabi’s fire makes it a hundred times easier to see what’s around them. keigo continues to shiver as he looks, making sure there’s no one nearby. he doesn’t send his feathers to check, not sure if dabi would like that or not.
the fire grows and keigo instinctively comes to step closer to the villain, feeling the warmth beginning to keep the shivers at bay. he’s still a wet bird though, soaked to the bone practically. keigo’s clothes cling to his skin and his feathers are so heavy on his back.]
Alright. S-Sounds good.
[he says before spreading his wings open and flapping some water out of them. they’re still heavy, but a little better than before.
keigo begins to head upstairs though, very interested in that heater. he needs to warm up his body and fast.]
[ dabi keeps his fire away from hawks' wings, more careful than he probably thinks he is. the last thing they need is another shitty thing between them.
if there's anyone else here, dabi will just burn them out, so he isn't really worried about that part. he just wants to dry off and hang out here till the storm passes, and then hopefully just be done with this mess. that's what he tells himself over and over again as he heads up the stairs, keeping his fire burning in the palm of his hand.
he checks around but there's no one up here, so he heads for the heater, trying to get it to work. after a moment or two he stands up and kicks at it, scowling. ]
[keigo does quietly note how careful dabi is with his fire to the hero’s wings. he’d smile if his lips weren’t practically frozen.
maybe he’s a little dramatic to the cold. but. fuck. it’s freezing.
at the top of the stairs, keigo eyes dabi, watching the villain scout before working on the heater. he can just imagine the heat that would warm him up, dry him off and-]
What do you mean it’s busted?!
[keigo can’t stop the whine. he also can’t stop the way he steps closer and closer to dabi, putting on his best puppy-dog eyes.]
[Hawks is definitely being dramatic to the cold, but that's in Dabi's overheated opinion. Even now, wet as a drowned cat he's warm from using his flames.
It helps in drying his clothes a little but they still cling to him wetly and he lets his flame die out so he can remove his coat and wring it out.
he does notice hawks inching closer and closer, though, and even with only the city lights and the moonlight shining in, he can see that puppy dog look on the other man's face.
he lets out and annoyed sound, mostly cause he doesn't know how he can help. he just envisions his flames burning Hawks' wings down.]
[keigo can’t help but pout as dabi drops his flames, but he does note that it’s due to wringing out his coat. still, keigo finds himself shivering at the biting cold, trying to keep his wings and arms wrapped around him.
he really really needed heat. or a warm body. and with dabi, he could get both.
he just needed to convince dabi now.
he can’t help but smile at the annoyed sound from the villain, but does come to stop at dabi’s side, close enough that he could feel the natural warmth there.]
C-Can you..touch me?
[he asks probably too quiet, wanting desperately to reach out and hold dabi himself. to wrap his wings around the villain’s figure.]
[ dabi doesn't want to leave the envelope out of his sight, but there's no one else here but the two of them, and he doubts hawks will take it back if he went through all this shit to get it to him.
so he sets his wet coat aside carefully, and lets his body heat up some more to try and at least dry the rest of his clothes. they were barely out there in the rain for a minute, but it was so intense that his shirt was nearly soaked through.
it's sort of steaming now as it dries with his heat, and it's not like he's showing off or anything, but maybe just a little, especially because of those puppy dog eyes.
it's pathetic, really.
or maybe he's the pathetic one, because after hawks asks with a please on top fo it all, dabi lets out another annoyed grunt, but the, he hesitantly reaches out and slides his hands up hawks' arms. ]
[it’s completely unfair how attractive dabi is, with his white shirt that clings to his body, steam beginning to take shape as the villain obviously heats himself up. fuck. keigo can’t decide if he’d rather dabi stay wet or keep going.
he fondly remembers the thin waist, attractive and sharp hipbones, scarred and slim flesh. he also remembers the red lines he left over the villain’s back, against unmarred skin, after dabi was done with him.
no. he needs to focus.
swallowing, he looks up at dabi patiently, hoping the villain would give him what he wanted.
and, to his relief, dabi does, coming to place those familiar hands on the hero’s arms. keigo can’t help but hum at the warmth, and practically instinctively, he comes in closer, to get more heat on him.]
Thank you.
[he says gratefully, smile to his lips.]
Can I..hold you?
[dabi is this walking heater and keigo wants nothing more than to cling like a cat to sunlight.
and, maybe a small part of him does miss their previously close relationship. immensely.]
[ it's strange the way this makes him feel- makes him feel anything at all- maybe that's the strange part. but again it feels the way he did when hawks said he likes him, even if he's rough around the edges.
hawks hums so peacefully and comes closer, and dabi kinda wants to let him. the worst part of it is, dabi isn't even thinking about the sex parts now. he's just thinking about how nice this is.
and yet still he scowls a bit. ]
No, ya can't fuckin' hold me.
[but maybe he just means not like this, because he sighs and drops his arms, then trudges over to the wall and slides down it so he can lean back against it.]
Come over here, birdbrain. I ain't gonna stand the whole fuckin' time just to hold ya up.
[he isn't going to cuddle, so hawks should watch himself, but if the other man can lay his back against his chest somehow, even with all those feathers in the way, then maybe dabi can hold him.]
[it feels oddly serene, familiar in it's own way. keigo finds himself liking it. maybe it's why he allows that question to have slid out, despite their previous animosity. it's still sensitive between them, and he's more than aware of that.
still, it's hard to not wince or even pull back a bit when he's given the scowl and sharp remark.]
O-Oh, sorry. Sorry for asking-forget I said anything-
[keigo babbles, rubbing him arm awkwardly as he tries to recover with a fake smile.
but, as dabi pulls away himself, going to the wall and sliding down, keigo trails off, looking a little worriedly at the villain. does he? doesn't he? he's still cold. and...it's still an offer. so, awkwardly, he nods his head and heads on over, able to see through the lines there and come to turn and have his back to dabi's chest.
it's hard to fold the wings down, but he does. the longer feathers rest easily over dabi's thighs and to the floor, while the smaller ones can curl around his body.
for the first time in a long while, words can't come to his lips, so he stays quiet and patient. he appreciates this though, that dabi is more than willing to warm up his body. hopefully the rain would stop before they're done there. keigo still isn't looking any bit of forward to walking back if it's raining.]
[ he rolls his eyes at the way hawks reacts, especially with that fake smile, but he knows he can't blame the guy. dabi's an asshole through and through, and maybe the rough edges aren't as okay as hawks says they are, but dabi thinks he might want them to be. even if just a little bit.
he wonders if hawks will change his mind and decide his warmth is not worth dealing with his shit.
but then he comes over anyway, and dabi can only wonder for a moment if this might be a bad idea, but then there hawks is, getting all cozy against him and dabi spreads his legs to accommodate him so he can sit back a little easier. dabi pushes at his feathers a bit to reposition them as they settle, and then eventually dabi's hands move to hawks' sides, warming him. ]
[if only the hero commission could see him now. keigo is positive he would get his ass in so much trouble for this. but, he trusts dabi to an extent, and whatever this was between them. well. it was between them. his handlers weren't aware of it. and they didn't need to be.
briefly, he's tense though, half wondering if dabi was going to turn him into a burnt chicken. yet, warm hands adjust his feathers, and keigo can't stop the small, quiet sound that stirs from it. they always were his more sensitive parts. then, those same hands are on his sides, and keigo can feel it getting warmer and heating his body up.
he's just starting to relax when he catches the question. he nods his head first, not exactly trusting his voice for a few seconds.]
Yeah. Thanks, Dabi.
[he would give a genuine smile, but they're not facing each other, so he hides it, keeping it to himself. it's practically dangerous how much he's relaxed right then though. heat like this usually makes him weak and tired, yet keigo remains aware. he's enjoying it. well, as much as he can enjoy it while still giving the briefest of shivers from his wet clothes.]
[ dabi doesn't know if he trusts hawks, but everything he's been doing here and there has proved that he does, even if just a little bit. even if hawks doesn't see it.
even now, just sitting here like this, warming hawks up after everything that's happened- dabi feels it's got to be something, even if he'd terrible at admitting it.
and hell, his hands feel good being back on hawks, even if they're all wet and hawks is shivering, and this place is old and dusty as hell. dabi doesn't mind the atmosphere, and he doesn't really mind hawks relaxing back against him. his hands move up and down the bird's sides, then slide around him a little more, heating up some more.
but hawks would warm up a hell of a lot faster without all this wetness, so maybe it's stupid, but dabi tugs on hawks' shirt. ]
[keigo finds himself sighing quietly, more relaxed than he ever has been, he realizes. in front of a villain, nonetheless. but, despite that, he does trust dabi to an extent. probably trusts him a hell of a lot more than those he should trust.
the thought almost gets a smile at his lips.
it's back to being serene again. he can feel the slide of hands roaming up his sides, those hot fingers even inching further around him, like they should do more often-
the question breaks the pleasant atmosphere suddenly. keigo blinks briefly, trying to recollect his thoughts before he realizes he needs to be the one who removes his shirt. honestly, one day he really should teach dabi how to do it. although...why would the villain need to learn it? as much as keigo misses their intimacy, he understands they can't return to it.]
Sure, hold on.
[the hero finally answers, even managing to toss a smile over his shoulder before he reaches down to the edge of his shirt. it's wet and tight against his tanned skin, a little bit harder to pull up. in fact, far too hard with the wet feathers in the way.
resisting the sight at his lips, keigo shreds his damp feathers, littering them to the floor and dabi's lap before he inches up the shirt. and, to avoid the dusty floor, he uses a few of those feathers to hang his shirt to the wall, careful of the cobwebs he spots.
the weight-loss is nice on his back though, so keigo sends a majority of his feathers to the wall, to allow them to dry on their own, while a few come to return to the base of his wings. they're small, barely flutter. however, they can provide as a close weapon for the hero, should he need it.]
[ dabi isn't used to any kind of peacefulness in any sense, but there are moments with hawks where he thinks he might find some. this feels like one of those moments, despite how hard he's been fighting it.
the thing about being with hawks is, when they're not fighting or fucking, it can be comfortable, more so than anything else he's ever had in his life. they've had their mishaps and he knows they'll have more, but then there are times like this when it's not so bad.
dabi realizes once hawks starts pulling up his shirt that maybe this really was a stupid idea. it's tight, and wet and it clings as the other man pulls it off, muscles shifting and flexing as he does so. hawks is gorgeous, that's one thing dabi has always been honest about. he doesnt' want to fall back into any of this just because of that, though. ]
Wow...
[dabi says as he watches hawks remove so much of his own feathers, letting them scatter and fall around, moving things as needed. ]
Never seen ya do that before.
[it's not said in the angry way he said before when he thought hawks was lying to him. this time it's just honest and sincere, if that's even possible for someone like him.]
[keigo can't stop the smile this time, finding dabi's reaction to be honest. he kind of likes it. it's about how he feels when the villain was usually done with him in terms of their previous intimacy.]
I try not to.
[the hero comes to admit, looking over his shoulder, golden eyes trying to catch dabi's blue ones.]
They're...a lot more sensitive when they're this small.
[he tries to laugh it off. it isn't often he allows his wings to remain small either, even when alone. they're the first things he dries off so that they remain in place to his back. he can't even sleep comfortably as the sheets can even make him into some sort of a mess.
it's almost embarrassing to admit, but then again, dabi has already seen him at his worst when he previously touched them.]
But, I figure I can deal with it for a bit until the others dry off.

I trust you. Or, I’m learning to. I believe you can do what you say you’re going to do.

he does notice hawks inching closer and closer, though, and even with only the city lights and the moonlight shining in, he can see that puppy dog look on the other man's face.
he lets out and annoyed sound, mostly cause he doesn't know how he can help. he just envisions his flames burning Hawks' wings down.]
And how the hell do ya expect me to do that?
no subject
he really really needed heat. or a warm body. and with dabi, he could get both.
he just needed to convince dabi now.
he can’t help but smile at the annoyed sound from the villain, but does come to stop at dabi’s side, close enough that he could feel the natural warmth there.]
C-Can you..touch me?
[he asks probably too quiet, wanting desperately to reach out and hold dabi himself. to wrap his wings around the villain’s figure.]
Please?
no subject
so he sets his wet coat aside carefully, and lets his body heat up some more to try and at least dry the rest of his clothes. they were barely out there in the rain for a minute, but it was so intense that his shirt was nearly soaked through.
it's sort of steaming now as it dries with his heat, and it's not like he's showing off or anything, but maybe just a little, especially because of those puppy dog eyes.
it's pathetic, really.
or maybe he's the pathetic one, because after hawks asks with a please on top fo it all, dabi lets out another annoyed grunt, but the, he hesitantly reaches out and slides his hands up hawks' arms. ]

he fondly remembers the thin waist, attractive and sharp hipbones, scarred and slim flesh. he also remembers the red lines he left over the villain’s back, against unmarred skin, after dabi was done with him.
no. he needs to focus.
swallowing, he looks up at dabi patiently, hoping the villain would give him what he wanted.
and, to his relief, dabi does, coming to place those familiar hands on the hero’s arms. keigo can’t help but hum at the warmth, and practically instinctively, he comes in closer, to get more heat on him.]
Thank you.
[he says gratefully, smile to his lips.]
Can I..hold you?
[dabi is this walking heater and keigo wants nothing more than to cling like a cat to sunlight.
and, maybe a small part of him does miss their previously close relationship. immensely.]

hawks hums so peacefully and comes closer, and dabi kinda wants to let him. the worst part of it is, dabi isn't even thinking about the sex parts now. he's just thinking about how nice this is.
and yet still he scowls a bit.
[he isn't going to cuddle, so hawks should watch himself, but if the other man can lay his back against his chest somehow, even with all those feathers in the way, then maybe dabi can hold him.]
no subject
still, it's hard to not wince or even pull back a bit when he's given the scowl and sharp remark.]
O-Oh, sorry. Sorry for asking-forget I said anything-
[keigo babbles, rubbing him arm awkwardly as he tries to recover with a fake smile.
but, as dabi pulls away himself, going to the wall and sliding down, keigo trails off, looking a little worriedly at the villain. does he? doesn't he? he's still cold. and...it's still an offer. so, awkwardly, he nods his head and heads on over, able to see through the lines there and come to turn and have his back to dabi's chest.
it's hard to fold the wings down, but he does. the longer feathers rest easily over dabi's thighs and to the floor, while the smaller ones can curl around his body.
for the first time in a long while, words can't come to his lips, so he stays quiet and patient. he appreciates this though, that dabi is more than willing to warm up his body. hopefully the rain would stop before they're done there. keigo still isn't looking any bit of forward to walking back if it's raining.]

he wonders if hawks will change his mind and decide his warmth is not worth dealing with his shit.
but then he comes over anyway, and dabi can only wonder for a moment if this might be a bad idea, but then there hawks is, getting all cozy against him and dabi spreads his legs to accommodate him so he can sit back a little easier. dabi pushes at his feathers a bit to reposition them as they settle, and then eventually dabi's hands move to hawks' sides, warming him. ]
Better?
no subject
briefly, he's tense though, half wondering if dabi was going to turn him into a burnt chicken. yet, warm hands adjust his feathers, and keigo can't stop the small, quiet sound that stirs from it. they always were his more sensitive parts. then, those same hands are on his sides, and keigo can feel it getting warmer and heating his body up.
he's just starting to relax when he catches the question. he nods his head first, not exactly trusting his voice for a few seconds.]
Yeah. Thanks, Dabi.
[he would give a genuine smile, but they're not facing each other, so he hides it, keeping it to himself. it's practically dangerous how much he's relaxed right then though. heat like this usually makes him weak and tired, yet keigo remains aware. he's enjoying it. well, as much as he can enjoy it while still giving the briefest of shivers from his wet clothes.]
no subject
even now, just sitting here like this, warming hawks up after everything that's happened- dabi feels it's got to be something, even if he'd terrible at admitting it.
and hell, his hands feel good being back on hawks, even if they're all wet and hawks is shivering, and this place is old and dusty as hell. dabi doesn't mind the atmosphere, and he doesn't really mind hawks relaxing back against him. his hands move up and down the bird's sides, then slide around him a little more, heating up some more.
but hawks would warm up a hell of a lot faster without all this wetness, so maybe it's stupid, but dabi tugs on hawks' shirt. ]
Take this off. You're soaked.
no subject
the thought almost gets a smile at his lips.
it's back to being serene again. he can feel the slide of hands roaming up his sides, those hot fingers even inching further around him, like they should do more often-
the question breaks the pleasant atmosphere suddenly. keigo blinks briefly, trying to recollect his thoughts before he realizes he needs to be the one who removes his shirt. honestly, one day he really should teach dabi how to do it. although...why would the villain need to learn it? as much as keigo misses their intimacy, he understands they can't return to it.]
That's a lot better. They were killing my back.

the thing about being with hawks is, when they're not fighting or fucking, it can be comfortable, more so than anything else he's ever had in his life. they've had their mishaps and he knows they'll have more, but then there are times like this when it's not so bad.
dabi realizes once hawks starts pulling up his shirt that maybe this really was a stupid idea. it's tight, and wet and it clings as the other man pulls it off, muscles shifting and flexing as he does so. hawks is gorgeous, that's one thing dabi has always been honest about. he doesnt' want to fall back into any of this just because of that, though. ]
Wow...
[dabi says as he watches hawks remove so much of his own feathers, letting them scatter and fall around, moving things as needed. ]
Never seen ya do that before.
[it's not said in the angry way he said before when he thought hawks was lying to him. this time it's just honest and sincere, if that's even possible for someone like him.]
no subject
